Daily "Breakdown" October 27, 2008

Here's a quick "breakdown" of what's happening in the world of politics today...

Senator Obama will begin to deliver what his campaign is calling his "closing argument" today. This set of speeches will give stark contrast between Senator Obama and Senator John McCain, and further compairing Senator McCain to President George W. Bush, in an attempt to further capture independent voters. The first delivery of the "closing arguement" will be held at a rally today in Canton, Ohio.

Quick "breakdown" 10/24/2008

According to a new Politico/Insider Advantage poll released yesterday, Senator Obama is solidifying his lead in Ohio. In Franklin County, home to the city Columbus, Senator Obama has a 51/40 lead over Senator McCain. Statewide, Senator Obama holds a 52/42 lead over Senator McCain.

However, in Hillsborough County, Florida, which includes Tampa Bay, Senator McCain has been able to narrow the gap with Senator Obama. McCain trails 46/44 in one of the most conpetitive counties in Florida.

Senator Hillary Clinton has begun releasing ads for Al Frankin, the Democratic candidate for Minnesota's Senate seat.

Former Press Secretary under George W. Bush, Scott McClellan, has endorsed Senator Obama. McClellan has become the second former Bush Administration member to support Senator Obama. Last Sunday, former Secretary of State, General Colin Powell endorsed Obama in what was seen by many as a indictment of the McCain campaign.

Last night, the New York Times endorsed Senator Obama. The Detroit News endorsed Senator McCain.

Penn. Ave. Breakdown: 10/23/2008

Welcome to the first official Penn. Ave. Breakdown Post.

Here's a quick "Breakdown" of what's happening in the world of politics...

Elected Officials Homes Vandalized in Minnesota - The homes of both U.S. Senators, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Norm Coleman, in addition to four U.S. Representatives John Kline, Michele Bachman, Jim Ramstad, and Keith Ellison were vandalized Tuesday night/Wednesday Morning. The vandals spray painted messages such as "Scum," "U R A Criminal," "Resign now or else."

"Sen. Coleman said the graffiti is a 'physical manifestation' of the anger and partisanship that he said is tearing apart the country"

Sgt. Jesse Garcia, the spokesperson for the Minneapolis police declared "This is a childish way for someone to express their political views." The police are still investigating.

Gov. Palin, Husband to give Desposition to Alaska Personell Board Friday - The Gov. Sarah Palin, Senator McCain's Vice Presidential Candidate, and her husband Todd Palin will be giving separate depositions before the Alaska Personnel Board this coming Friday. The deposition about the firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan because Monegan would not fire State Trooper Mike Wooten from the State Police. Trooper Wooten was in the process of a messy divorce from Governor Palin's sister. An independent commission previously released a report into "Troopergate" stating that Governor Palin abused her power as Governor in pressuring Monegan, but did not break any laws.

National Republican Congressional Committee Pulling Ads from Rep. Bachman's House Race - The NRCC is pulling the media purchases made by the Committee. NRCC had recently pulled money from another safe district to funnel the money into Bachman's race against El Tinklenburg. The collapse of Bachman comes after her "Hardball" appearance after she called on major national newspapers to investigate Congressional members to "find out of they are pro-America or Anti-America," and called Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama "Anti-American." In the 48-hours immediately after these remarks were made, Tinklenberg raised over $1 million for his campaign against Bachman.

Welcome!

Welcome to the first post of the Pennsylvania Avenue Breakdown.

This blog was named for Pennsylvania Avenue, which travels between the White House and The Capitol in Washington, D.C. With that in mind, the blog will focus on national politics in the Untied States, covering the actions of all three branches of the government, including (but not limited to) elections, important court cases, and policy.

News posting will be displayed from many sources across the political spectrum (conservative, liberal, and independent). This blog is meant to be objective and not push any particular agenda.

Occasionally, there will be stories that will be posted that will be "off topic," but have importance to the United States and the world.

I hope that you enjoy your time here at Pennsylvania Avenue Breakdown.  Please feel free to join us, and comment on news stories that are posted.
